Our story began in 2014, when we started specialising in the management of agricultural estates.
That work gave us first-hand insight into one of the hardest realities of farming: very often, the person who produces the food has the least control over the value of what they produce.
A farm’s profitability could depend on a good harvest, but also on a selling price the producer did not control. When both went well, it could be a good year. When yields fell or prices dropped, everything changed.
And in farming, no year is guaranteed.
In 2017 we decided to look for an alternative for our own produce. We created our first online shop with a simple idea: to reach customers directly and gain greater control over how, and at what price, we sold what we produced.
The beginning was not easy. We had very little e-commerce experience and, during the first few years, we had to learn almost everything from scratch.
But we had one important thing on our side: we believed in our products.
Little by little, our first customers arrived. Then came recommendations and repeat orders. We discovered that people valued not only the product itself, but also knowing where it came from and being able to buy it more directly.
That experience is what ultimately gave El Mercado de Origen its purpose.
It led us to ask a very simple question: if this model had worked for our own products, why couldn’t it work for other producers too?
That is how the idea emerged for a project where origin could once again have the prominence it deserves.
We want every product to be recognised for what truly gives it value: where it comes from, the work of the person who makes it, and how it is produced.
For us, origin is not simply the place a product comes from. It is everything behind it. And that is exactly what we want to highlight at El Mercado de Origen.
